Adventure with Wayne Tsao

When I shoot with someone for the first time, I always like to spend at least 10 - 15 minutes to get to know them. That way, it is comfortable for both of us when we start shooting.

Wayne Tsao(@themisterwayne) and I spent over 45 minutes chatting over coffee. We talked about why we started Instagram, the current IG landscape, influencer marketing, and a host of other things.

During our chat, he mentioned how he wanted to transform his profile from fashion to a lifestyle page. At first, I thought this was very common considering how many lifestyle bloggers are popping up. But the reason Wayne wanted to pivot was to have the flexibility to the genre provides. He wanted to share more of his personality/talents (did you know he could sing and play the guitar?), love for adventure, and the different areas of North America to his followers based in Taiwan. Having a page purely for fashion just didn't allow him to show all of that.

Being around people who have a great passion and desire for adventure really pushes you. If you follow me on IG Story, you know that I wander around the city a lot. But Wayne didn't want to venture around the city, he wanted to go to the lakes and mountains that surrounds us. This was perfect since I've always wanted to do some PNW style photoshoots.

Back in December, Wayne and I went on our first photoshoot adventure to Buntzen Lake. We grabbed a nice hearty brunch at Yolks and cruised to North Vancouver in a ZipCar. Because of the cold weather, the lake was desserted. We were the only ones crazy enough to canoe in freezing temperatures. Crazy enough that the City Attendant came over several times to make sure we didn't tip over our boat. She ensured us that we would pass out in a minute if we were fall in the water. During the whole time we were on the canoe, I was FREAKING OUT. Not only was I insecure about my ability to swim (haven't swam in years), but I was always deathly afraid of my camera gear being destroyed.

I survived. My gear survived. Life is good.

Although the experience was scary, it was a fun adventure and a story to tell. Excited for the next crazy adventure!
